Australian Apprenticeships

An Apprenticeship are an employment based training contract that leads to a trade qualification. They usually take four years to complete. Country Apprentices will generally undergo training one week at a time, several times a year. Others usually attend one day per week.

Traineeships are an employment based training contract that leads to a non-trade qualification. However, they can be the equivalent to the first year of a traditional trade apprenticeship. They usually take about one year to complete. Trainees will generally undergo off-the-job training for one or two days per week. However, the training schedule can be designed so that all training is completed in the workplace.

Australian School Based Apprenticeships (and Traineeships)
School based (part-time) Apprenticeships are a employment based training contract that leads to a formal qualification and are an excellent alternative for employers who do not need an immediate full-time employee, but require enthusiastic help on a regular basis. A School based Apprenticeship allows a student whilst still at school to commence an Australian Apprenticeship and gain credit points towards SACE, as well as working in their chosen vocation with credit also being granted towards their Australian Apprenticeship formal qualifications.
